Orangutan Journey Foundation: Nurturing Local Education and Conservation

Since 2014, the Orangutan Journey has been dedicated to promoting education and conservation in Indonesia. Our mission focuses on three key areas: Tourism Human Resources Education, Local Education for community support, and Conservation Education to encourage ecotourism.
Tourism Human Resources Education We offer training programs for tour guides, students, tourism ambassadors competition, and tourism workers. These programs enhance skills in communication, excellent service, insights and knowledge about local wildlife, customer service, and especially orangutans.
Local Education for Community Support We support local education through workshops, training sessions, and non-formal education programs. Our goal is to empower the community by sharing knowledge and skills to improve their lives.
Conservation Education for Ecotourism We promote awareness about protecting orangutans and their habitats. Through educational tours, community outreach, and partnerships with conservation organizations, we encourage sustainable practices that support ecotourism.
For a decade, we have funded these initiatives independently, allocating over 25% of our profits to our programs. The Orangutan Journey Foundation is committed to making a lasting impact on the community and the environment, ensuring a sustainable future for all.

Our vision

At the Orangutan Journey Foundation, we envision a future where education and conservation thrive together. We empower tourism professionals, uplift communities through workshops and training, and promote sustainable practices to protect orangutans and their habitats. We are dedicated to making a lasting, positive impact on our environment and communities.

Our mission

At the Orangutan Journey Foundation, our mission is to foster a sustainable future through education and conservation. We are committed to:

  • Local Education: Empowering communities through workshops and non-formal education to enhance knowledge and skills.

  • Supporting Conservation: Promoting awareness and sustainable practices to protect orangutans and their habitats.

  • Upskilling for Local Tourism Workers: Providing comprehensive training to tourism professionals, enabling them to deliver exceptional experiences.

Endemic Tree Planting Programs

Over the past decade and continuing to this day, Orangutan Journey has planted over a thousand endemic trees in collaboration with our clients from across the globe. Our efforts have inspired various groups to participate in reforestation, including the 'Thousand Trees a Day' program initiated after the devastating forest fires in Borneo in 2015. One of our most notable projects was the creation of the Epiphany Forest in 2021, which was made possible through a meaningful collaboration with the Korean BTS Army fan group, 'Bintang Ungu.' Together, we are making a lasting impact on the environment and future generations.

Our Renowned Efforts

"A Thousand Trees a Day - 2015"

A Thousand Trees a Day is an initiative led by Orangutan Journey that brings together communities, students, and locals to plant endemic trees in the Beguruh Area of Tanjung Puting National Park after the devastating forest fire in 2015.

"Epiphany Forest - 2021"

Epiphany Forest is a celebration of Kim Seok Jin's (BTS Group member) birthday in 2021, where over 200 trees were planted with the BTS Army fan community, Bintang Ungu. This special area, named Epiphany Forest, is located in Jurung Tiga Forest Park, Pasir Panjang, Central Borneo.
